Eligibility for PhD Admission 2024 (PAT-2024)
- Master’s Degree Requirement:
Candidates must have a Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the aggregate (or an equivalent grade in the point scale system, where applicable). - Relaxation for Reserved Categories:
A relaxation of 5% marks (from 55% to 50%) or an equivalent grade relaxation will be provided to candidates belonging to SC/ST/EBC/OBC/Differently-abled categories. - Subject Specificity:
Candidates are ordinarily permitted to pursue Ph.D. research in the subject of their Master’s Degree or an allied subject from a recognized university. - Ineligibility of Appearing Candidates:
Candidates who are currently appearing for their Master’s Degree are not eligible to apply for the Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT – 2024).
Exemptions from the Written Test of Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT)-2024
- Candidates with Research Grants: Candidates who have secured grants for research such as fellowship/scholarship/associateship by qualifying exams like:
- UGC/NET
- CSIR-NET
- GATE
- MHRD Scholarship
- Teacher Fellowship
- DBT
- ICMR
- ICAR
- DST-INSPIRES
- CSSIR
- ICHR, etc.
- University Teaching Staff: Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and Professors who:
- Are appointed on a substantive post in the UGC pay scale in teaching departments of the University or its constituent colleges. Have successfully completed their probation. Have at least two years of uninterrupted service.
- Non-Teaching Employees of the University: Non-teaching employees who:
- Hold a substantive appointment for more than five years.
- Have at least 55% marks in their Master’s degree in the relevant subject.
- Have published at least two research papers in reputed refereed journals or journals recognized by the UGC.
Note:
- Candidates who are exempted from the written test of the Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT) must submit their application online along with the required fee.
- Candidates who have passed PAT-22 and PAT-23 are also exempted from the Pre-Ph.D. Admission Test (PAT) for three consecutive years.

Purnea University PhD written test
The written test consists of two papers. Each paper consists of 100 marks each with multiple choice questions. Paper I is based on qualitative teaching and research aptitude and Paper II shall be subjective type based on the subject concerned.
Interview Details
The interview process is a crucial component of the selection procedure, carrying a weight of 20 marks. It is mandatory for all candidates, including those who are otherwise exempted, to appear before the Interview Board. The minimum qualifying marks for the interview are set as follows:
- General candidates: 50% aggregate marks
- Reserved category candidates: 45% aggregate marks
Entrance Test Schedule
The entrance test will be conducted in two sittings on Updated Soon. The schedule is as follows:
- Paper I: 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon
- Paper II: 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM
Entrance Test Centre
